Cocoa Jaunt 1728 @ Cenatoph Road

A bunch of us were invited to the launch of this new bakery/cafe, as they call it. Its opposite to the Japanese consulate if you are trying to locate it.

The owners were there to meet and mingle with us and tell us more about the concept and how cocoa jaunt came to be. They are focused on presenting fresh breads and food for the customers.

We had quite a few things on the list to be tried that day, started with a blue Curacao drink called blue bay. It was a little too sweet for my liking.

The above was green apple and kiwi granita, it was light and refreshing.

Onion and cheese fries with onion and cheese dip

Peri peri fries with peri peri dip

I preferred the mix and match combination when it came to the fires and the associated dips. The cheese and onion dip tasted better with the peri peri fries and vice versa. Do try it that and take a call for yourself.

image

Pander tikka garlic bread, was good we all polished it off in no time πŸ™‚

image

Peri peri paneer sandwich, was also good and quite filling.

image

This was a nutty caramel milkshake, also very thick and filling.

A couple of pizzas were also served, I was too full to try anything so missed out on them, but the rest of the crew loved them so make sure u get ur own slice

image

The desserts platter had a German cake, bitter and blanc with vanilla sauce (this was the one in the cup) Madeleine cookie and a caramel chocolate.

This dish called paneer curry bunny chow sort of resembles a bread bowl soup. This curry was very spicy and I did not enjoy it very much.

CPK PMC blogger event

As a part of the Phoenix Market City food blogging event, in association with Chennai food Guide, went to California Pizza Kitchen.

As this is one of my usual jaunts I was excited to try things that I normally would not order by myself.
We ordered drinks first and i choose a strawberry lemonade.

image

First up was the Thai Crunch salad, which is listed with chicken on the menu and therefore I’ve never tried it. But i was told that day that all of the non veg items on the menu can be made veg!!! How cool is that!!

image

Then got to try the black bean quesadilla, which was also good.

image

Had the lettuce wrap next, this uses lettuce leaves to hold the veggies in while you roll it up and eat. Very tasty and refreshing.

image

Finally another salad, can’t remember the correct name! It had nuts and dates and had lots of flavor.

image

First pizza we tried was the Tostada which is one of CPK signature dishes. It’s a hot and cold pizza, where the pizza is hot and has a topping of cold lettuce.

Next was the kasuri paneer pizza, this was very flavorful. The paneer had a good flavor and texture and it blended well with the other toppings.

image

We also had the Greek pizza, which was topped with olives and feta. It had good flavor and very filling.
For desserts we ended up having Tiramisu and the white chocolate strawberry cheesecake. Both of which are very good and what I usually get. πŸ™‚

Jonah’s goes to Japan, PMC blogger event

Chennai Food Guide in association with Phoenix Market City organized a food blogging event showcasing a few of the restaurants in Phoenix mall.

Jonah’s goes to Japan was our first stop for this event. I had never been to this place before and was looking forward to the experience there. We were introduced to the staff and the chefs at the restaurant and they had laid out quite an extensive menu for is to cover.

image

Looking at the menu I realized that my veg options were few, but the staff said they wld ensure I had enough to try.

image

We started off with a paneer appetizer, it had a good flavor to it although I found the paneer itself to be a little tough.

image

Then moved on to a crossaintwich, the roasted veggies had a good flavor and also had a bit of a crunch which enhanced the overall flavor.

image

Next I was served a pesto pasta, the pesto was very good and tasted very fresh. The basil and walnut flavors came thru and I did enjoy this pasta quite a bit.

There was also steak served for the meat eaters and I saw they got mashed potatoes along with it. It looked soo good I asked for a serving for myself and it was just so creamy and so yumm!!

image

image

image

image

Finally we got sushi, the orange crusted one was a seafood variety and the other 2 veg. The sushi was very good and very well made. The wasabi and the ginger also were good. I really did enjoy the sushi a lot especially since the wasabi did a fabulous job of clearing my sinuses πŸ™‚

Sinuses clear I could now tackle the desserts, the desserts here come from Pondicherry. We tried the opera cake which was ok as the wafer portion tasted a little odd.

image

image

I forgot the name of this one! It was good, it had an internal filling of someΒ  berries compote.

Definitely worth going here, especially for the sushi.

Relaunch of Kwality Restaurant

I had the opportunity to go and try out Kwality Restaurant @ egmore. This is a veg restaurant. The restaurant was open a number of years ago and then closed down. It has now reopened and hopes to serve some delicious dishes.

We started out with some soups and salads. I got the corn potato soup, which was from the Chinese section of the menu. This soup had low potato flavor which gave it a more broth like feel.

image

The others got a manchow soup which they claimed had good flavor.

image

There was one of us who was starving so got some paneer tikka, which was polished off in a matter of few mins πŸ™‚
The paneer was super soft and very flavorful.

image

The Chinese salad we got was different and had a good blend of flavors.

image

Some of the starters we tried were achari paneer, dragon roll, pepper corn.

We also got a dahi sheek Kebab which was very good and had very good flavor.

For main course we tried a variety of Indian subzis, and assorted breads.

This was methi paneer and it went very well with the naans.

We also got to try chana bhatura

image

We also tried 2 different types of dals. Dal peshawari and dal makhani, although similar looking each had a distinct flavor and were good.

image

image

I had no more space to eat to I didn’t try the veg biryani, but I was told it was also good.
Finally it was time for desserts, and there is always place for desserts πŸ™‚

image
Tutti frutti, hot fudge sundae and gajar ka halwa

All very tasty πŸ™‚
The prices were very reasonable total vfm!

The Indian selection on the menu was very good and plenty of choices, the Chinese selection needs some work ( which has been informed to the management) definitely worth a try if your in that area.

CPK after a long time!

This past weekend was in Phoenix to watch a movie and decided to grab some lunch before v got to the movie. My daughter wanted pizza so went over to California Pizza Kitchen, it had been a long time since we visited the place too.

Being Independence day, the mall was super crowded even at noon but luckily CPK was quite empty. We didn’t have as much time to eat as thought we did so quickly got the veg soup and ordered our usual Tostada Pizza

image

image

Both were good and we were able to polish it off quickly too. The problem with CPK, which has been there since they opened, is the number of insects and flies in the place. I did have to keep swatting away flies from our pizza, this was not good at all!!

Finally got the white chocolate strawberry cheesecake, it was good but a bit on the hard side. I remember it being so creamy, which was not the case this time which was a little disappointing.

Sandwich Square, Besant Nagar

After spending an hr running around the beach with my daughter and her friend, we wanted to much something light so that dinner would not be affected. Decided to try sandwich square as sandwich was light enough to b had late evening.

The inside air conditioned are was small, some seating was available outside also. It was clean and had nice pictures on the walls. They had a whole bunch of sandwiches listed and also some combos.

I got the masala cheese sandwich and got a kiddie combo for the kids. The kiddie combo comes with a chocolate sandwich, we got a strawberry chocolate one as the dark chocolate one was unavailable. Also in the combo are fries and a crusher, drink. The drink also was strawberry flavored, what can I say my daughter loves strawberries :). The whole thing cost Rs. 160, where the combo was priced at 99.

The sandwiches were good, kids enjoyed theirs and I mine. Will definitely go back to try some of the other ones like noodles sandwich and few other interesting ones.
