CPK PMC blogger event

As a part of the Phoenix Market City food blogging event, in association with Chennai food Guide, went to California Pizza Kitchen.

As this is one of my usual jaunts I was excited to try things that I normally would not order by myself.
We ordered drinks first and i choose a strawberry lemonade.

image

First up was the Thai Crunch salad, which is listed with chicken on the menu and therefore I’ve never tried it. But i was told that day that all of the non veg items on the menu can be made veg!!! How cool is that!!

image

Then got to try the black bean quesadilla, which was also good.

image

Had the lettuce wrap next, this uses lettuce leaves to hold the veggies in while you roll it up and eat. Very tasty and refreshing.

image

Finally another salad, can’t remember the correct name! It had nuts and dates and had lots of flavor.

image

First pizza we tried was the Tostada which is one of CPK signature dishes. It’s a hot and cold pizza, where the pizza is hot and has a topping of cold lettuce.

Next was the kasuri paneer pizza, this was very flavorful. The paneer had a good flavor and texture and it blended well with the other toppings.

image

We also had the Greek pizza, which was topped with olives and feta. It had good flavor and very filling.
For desserts we ended up having Tiramisu and the white chocolate strawberry cheesecake. Both of which are very good and what I usually get. ūüôā

Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.

Jonah’s goes to Japan, PMC blogger event

Chennai Food Guide in association with Phoenix Market City organized a food blogging event showcasing a few of the restaurants in Phoenix mall.

Jonah’s goes to Japan was our first stop for this event. I had never been to this place before and was looking forward to the experience there. We were introduced to the staff and the chefs at the restaurant and they had laid out quite an extensive menu for is to cover.

image

Looking at the menu I realized that my veg options were few, but the staff said they wld ensure I had enough to try.

image

We started off with a paneer appetizer, it had a good flavor to it although I found the paneer itself to be a little tough.

image

Then moved on to a crossaintwich, the roasted veggies had a good flavor and also had a bit of a crunch which enhanced the overall flavor.

image

Next I was served a pesto pasta, the pesto was very good and tasted very fresh. The basil and walnut flavors came thru and I did enjoy this pasta quite a bit.

There was also steak served for the meat eaters and I saw they got mashed potatoes along with it. It looked soo good I asked for a serving for myself and it was just so creamy and so yumm!!

Finally we got sushi, the orange crusted one was a seafood variety and the other 2 veg. The sushi was very good and very well made. The wasabi and the ginger also were good. I really did enjoy the sushi a lot especially since the wasabi did a fabulous job of clearing my sinuses ūüôā

Sinuses clear I could now tackle the desserts, the desserts here come from Pondicherry. We tried the opera cake which was ok as the wafer portion tasted a little odd.

I forgot the name of this one! It was good, it had an internal filling of some  berries compote.

Definitely worth going here, especially for the sushi.

New Town, Alwarpet – CFG Showcase

Its golu season and after making my visit to one of the finest golu in the city stopped by at New Town to check out their menu offerings. The plush interiors and lighting make you feel like you are in a new town ūüôā

The cuisine is malaysian street food and fusion asian. As I had never really ate much of the street food while in Malaysia I eagerly looked forward to what this place had to offer, especially vegetarian. It was interesting that all the tables had a little call button attached, by which you could call your server or cancel an order or ask for the bill! Cool isnt it??

First came a Orange juice or may b I should call it as slush it was in a bed of crushed ice. either way was good ūüôā

Photo

Next came the Minestrone -verde Soup, I’ve usualy had chunkier versions of this with a lot more stuff floating around, but this hit the spot and aided in soothing the throat.

Photo

The¬†Salad was ‚Äď Grilled Asparagus and Broccoli with balsamic reduction, the asparagus was grilled to perfection and the balsamic reduction with the parmesan cheese just added some nutty flavor which rounded off the dish perfectly.

Photo

The starters were: Refried beans in Taco shells, Mezze platter, Asparagus and mushroom vol au vent. The refried  beans had a good flavor and the taco shells gave a good crunch. Unfortunately I never got to try the vol au vents. The mezze platter was really good. the Tabuleh in particular was very flavorful.

For Main course we had Dry pan mee, which was flat noodles. this was particularly good.

Crispy noodles with 5 spice veg was also good but had a bit too much of the nutmeg and star anise flavor for me. I would have prefered a slightly less spiced noodle.

Photo

Veg grill sandwich, as opposed to your regular grilled sandwiches this one was made with bell peppers and loaded with cheese. A hearty sandwich and loads of flavor.

Roti canai veg curry was also really good.

Photo

Ended the meal with Roti Bom, Vatalappam, Orange chocolate mud pie, Apple crumbled tart, Mango mascarpone pannacotta, Espresso cream brulee.

Sugar rush@ best nagar – CFG Showcase

A cozy little joint@  besant nagar,  where galloping gooseberry was situated before closing. Contrary to the name this place also offers a variety of savory dishes to please one and all.

We started off with a blueberry shake

image

Which was very refreshing for it was a hot night. Next we tried Mexican herb toast.

image

It had a light herb seasoning which balanced the bread and cheese flavor very well.
Next came the cottage cheese sandwich,  which is a pander sandwich. Had a good stuffing of the cottage cheese.

image

Next came the Oreo ocean shake. Here there was a little bit of an off flavor, which on further digging we found out was from a bad batch of ice cream. Once the ice cream was changed the shake was very good.

image

We tried a veg pizza and burger next,  both were good but cldnt eat much as we were already stuffed.

image

image

We also tried the hash browns listed on the menu. The golden fried potatoes never seem to disappoint.

image

No matter how stuffed you are there is always room for desserts! We tried some cupcakes and a chocolate cake,  needless to say they were all good!

image

image

The cupcake s were kitkat, Apple crumble and chocolate.

Definitely a place to go on any lazy day! ! Or any day to satisfy a sweet tooth and grab a few savory things too!

CFG Showcase – Tuscana

Last month the CFG showcased Tuscana’s, Wallace Garden, new offerings. Also a new manager was taking our the reins at the place and was good to meet up with her. We started off with some garlic bread, called Baguette all’Aglio,¬†which was hot and had a good garlic flavor, nothing too strong, no vamipers to drive away!

Next came another appetizer which almost like the pizza base baked with some herbs and a nice tomato dip to go with it. It did seem like everyone was hungry as even the carrots and cucumbers were polished off! ūüôā

Next came a couple of salads Insalata Caprese and Insalata Toscana

This salad was good with the mozzarella cheese being very flavorful and just melted in the mouth.

The next salad also was very flavorful, bursting with the flavors of olives and lettuce, pears cheese and a hint of chives, which were placed as long stems rather than chopped and therefore missed every fork bite!

This was followed by Pizzas

This pizza was made gluten free and was well rounded. A lot of veggies as topping so all the flavors blended together and werent distinct. The baby corn added a nice texture while eating.

Next came the Hot Chili Pizza. This was really good the red beans gave a very distinct sweet flavor to offset the heat of the jalapenos. Definitely  kept the taste buds buzzing all night.

Next was the Alla Norma (Gluten Free penne) which was nice

Then came the Aglio Aromatizzata, this fettuccine packed a lot  of flavor. Not he usual alfredo sauce along with fettuccine this olive oil herb dressing was divine.

Lastly came the desserts, Tiramisu and Pannacotta. The tiramisu was good and moist, the pannacotta was coffee flavored which gave it a stiff texture. Somehow it didnt feel like a pannacotta but more like pudding.

CFG showcase – Lloyds tea house

Tea Decanter
Tea Decanter
Black Tea with Irish Cream
Black Tea with Irish Cream

I have always been a non coffee non tea drinker until recently! On travelling to Bangkok last summer I feel in love with lemon grass tea. I had been trying to find something similar here in Chennai to no luck
The closest to it was found in benjarong but one can’t go there every other day for it.
So I was thrilled to hear about Lloyds tea house esp it being so close to home.
After 2 attempts of trying to find the place finally landed there on the day of the showcase. I was with a friend and b/w the 2 of us we had a lemon grass tea, asparagus soup. Both were good! The soup had a mild asparagus flavor with a hint of spice. The tea was also quite mild which I wld have liked a lil stronger. As we were getting ready to leave Fazil walked in followed by Aarti and Nishanth!
So I decided to stay for the showcase. As were given the choice to try any of their huge variety of teas I decided, this time, to try Black tea with Irish cream while a lot of the grp went for iced teas.
The black tea arrived and the aroma itself was great. To some they got an aroma of chocolate, for me it was a dark roast aroma and the flavor also was similar.
Unlike most places using tea pots Lloyds used a decanting pot which dispenses as it’s kept on the cup, the tea flows from below! It was fascinating to c that.
I left by the time the food arrived so can’t tell much abt that.
But definitely a place I wld go back to!
Lastly I wld like to say that plz keep some honey as a lot of teas taste better with a hint of honey
I didn’t take any pics as there were many who did the same!
Looking fwd to a great tea time there again!
